Household Cavalry Foundation

Blues and Royals

My paintings “Winter March” and “Plumes” sold at auction for a total of £3077 last week with proceeds donated to The Household Cavalry Foundation.

I was asked a few months ago if I would consider painting four designs for the Foundation’s Christmas Cards and they were so well received that two were put forward for donation at auction.

In a clever promotion prior to the auction, both paintings went head-to-head in a Facebook “favourite painting” vote, sparking the great rivalry between the two regiments, Blues and Royals and The Lifeguards.

The Blues and Royals won on Facebook and both paintings sold at auction at the event, with the auctioneer raising the bar between the two pieces.  The evening was a great success and the event at the Dorchester Hotel in London raised a fabulous amount for the Foundation.

LifeguardsHopefully sales of the Christmas Cards this year will continue to raise funds.

Painting the pieces with a Christmas theme in mind was a tricky task.  Not only with subject, but also trying to retain my loose watercolours whilst keeping the detail which I feel is important to military art.

Cards will soon be available from the Household Cavalry Foundation.
