Shooting to Hunting

The hunt

When painting a dynamic shooting scene, there is nothing better than ‘getting in amongst the action’. That is exactly where I have been during the shooting season! From holding on tightly on the back of a quad bike, to quietly standing behind the guns awaiting the birds I have truly been part of the shoot and have felt very much part of the Shoot Party. There is simply nothing like it, enabling an artist to capture the moment on canvas. From the excitement of the first drive, to the failing light on the last drive, I have filled my sketch book and have enough images on my camera, to keep me painting for quite a while!

My current portfolio of shoot paintings, have been exhibited at the King John Inn, Tollard Royal this season and I am delighted to have received fabulous comments on my work.  With the shooting season having drawn to a close, I will be returning to my studio with my sketch book and photograph images and memories, which provide huge inspiration for an exciting new collection to be exhibited early September 2014.

In the meantime, the new theme at the King John Inn will be ‘Hunting and Hounds’ as the seasons change from the winter to the spring.
