Fifty Bees

I was thrilled to be able to take part in the third of this series of exhibitions organised by the very talented Lydia Needle.

Lydia creates the most beautiful and accurately represented hand-stitched bees and each of the 50 artists taking part in the exhibition were each allocated a particular bee.  They then had to research and respond with a piece of artwork connected to the ecology and hidden world of their bee.

In the early stages of planning the exhibition, I received an email letting me know that my bee was “Bombus Jonellus” the Heath Bee.  Following my research, I decided to paint the wildflower habitat and this is Machair in Scotland, which was perfect for my love of watercolours and transparent layers.

I was delighted to receive notification that my painting had sold.  There is still time to see this wonderful exhibition which is at the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton and closes on the 6th May 2019.
